Awesome New Blog.

I had been wondering where the conservative TS’s and TVs were hanging out. Now I know.

But . . . she was in the Navy, all my Marine readers will say, “that’s just like being a taxi driver with a little Dixie Cup on your head!”

To which I can only respond, “now, now; let’s not go there.”

Seriously: That’s one hell of a great biography. It took tremendous strength for Jenn to to be entirely consumed by the sleazy side of that life—and get out of it without turning her back on who she was. Bravo.

I know that a lot of my Roman Catholic and Evangelical readers are going to suggest that one should stick with one’s gender at birth, and will tell me that there is something flakey about abandoning it. I certainly think that “flakiness” occurs: people sometimes do cross-dress because others around them do it, or because they are having normal confusion about sex roles. As most of the conservative blogosphere keeps reminding me, however, gender differences are real, and the suffering of those whose forms are one way—but whose chromosomes are another—is also quite real.

There is actual gender dysphoria out there. Not my petty arguments with the limitations of femininity, or my mom’s having been talked out of a career in science, or stuff like that. Real issues, many of them occurring on a sub-cellular level in the human organism.

And, by the way, I know that both George W. Bush and Condi Rice have been very generous to TS’s in their lives. In the President’s case, this is a matter of public record. So I do believe that conservatives—even social conservatives—who are confronted with the suffering of those with true gender-identity issues—can be very understanding.

Now. Does that mean that I thought the outfit worn by one “she-male” I passed yesterday on Sunset Boulevard was tasteful? No, but that was a street person who evidently thought Speedos, complete with junk, and a well-filled sports bra set off his (sorry!—but I saw the Speedos first, and this person is better-endowed as a male than as a female) motorcycle especially well. My own thought is that it’s polite for TS’s and TVs to put a modicum of effort into not getting “read”: that is, pick a gender, and dress as it on that particular day, or for that particular event.

Put on a bit of makeup, or wear a locket or a skirt or something—and I promise I shan’t scrutinize you, looking for an Adam’s apple or other “tells.” But sometimes drugs are a part of that life, and that is a damned shame.

I am a conservative. I believe, above all, in individualism, and the right of each individual to be left alone.

Thanks for the kind words. I don’t really know if it was strength that let me walk away as much as desperation. At that point I had known for awhile that my life was not going well and the jail time was just the impetus I needed to break free. I am damn glad it went that way. I still have some friends who live that life that I hear from occasionally and it breaks my heart to talk to them anymore.

I, Joy, am more or less a social conservative. This does not make me hate anyone who does not fit the straight sexual images, like President Bush I try to accept folks the way they are. What I ask of them is what I ask of straights, keep the bedroom antics behind closed doors.

Enough about that, though, let me run over and welcome her to the blogosphere.
