. . . or, what an airhead Naomi Wolf is, and what a stand-up gal Phyllis Chesler is.
As most of you know, Front Page/NewsReal (and therefore, David Horowitz) got drawn into this as well. Partly because Jamie Glazov wrote an essay for NewsReal supporting Chesler’s position, and partly because Naomi Wolf actually wrote to Front Page, and asked them to remove Glazov’s article—for criticizing her. Chutzpah. And Glazov, like a gentleman, responded. (Yes, Glazov overstates his case just a smidge, particularly in the first essay. But he makes some crucial points.)
Cynthis Yockey has a lovely piece on Glazov; he is, indeed, standing up for oppressed women in Muslim countries, and shockingly few people are doing it these days. Yockey on Glazov. (Yeah; she pulls out the big guns. The Eric Hoffer comparisons. Which, if you know Cynthia . . .)
There is an alternative that Ms. Wolf should consider: if you don’t want your ideas to be discarded as half-baked . . . well, finish ‘em up in the oven before you publish them. Try that thinking thing, and people won’t regard you as thoughtless.

Naomi Wolf is getting more publicity out of this than she is worth.
Lots of apologists went to Nazi Germany, Stalin’s Russia, Mao’s China, and Castro’s Cuba to “correct” “misconceptions” in the West. That’s where I learned that people really do like that rifle butt in the head to straighten them out and a little alone time in the gulag or re-education camp. And that they prefer standing in line all day for the few loaves of bread that appear in the shops and how much better having your wounds swabbed with water from a slop bucket and wrapped in unwashed rags is when compared with Capitalist medicine.
As long as mutual goals are served, Naomi will always have your back. And deny everything later when it suits her purpose. “I never was an image consultant to Al Gore–it was all a Republican lie!” Even when I was making the rounds at talk shows saying I was his image coach. Words/Birds/Fly Away.
