Some of my best memories: every autumn, the Calvert County school system in Maryland would have a five-day holiday, and since my mom was a teacher, that meant five whole days of meandering around in the great Northeast, “leaf-peeping” and living on the apples, cheese, and cider from roadside stands. The last year, we dropped my brother off in Connecticut to hang out with my dad, stepmom, and half-sister. Then my mother and I were off on our own to Cape Cod and points beyond with our German shephard in tow.
To this day—as when we returned from that last mini-vacation, in 1973—when I want to get on my brother’s good side I get him maple sugar candy, like the kind we brought him way back when to buy his good wishes. After all, we needed the space: two ladies and a big dog, travelling in a VW bug, and sleeping in it at night?—Geez. We needed the space. No boyz allowed.
New Hampshire rawks.

That whole Worthy thing? Yeah, I’m not there yet. Thanks much Joy for the mention!
Oh, and now I feel like Madonna; if only my husband saw it that way . . . of course, maybe he does!
