This Will Interest No One But My Husband, and Darrell, and My Lesser Stalkers.

But I see this and to this day I ache that I wasn’t able to be there in person, because my boss at L.A. Parent insisted that I work that day.

And I worked the next day—a Saturday—too. My employee, Rod, did not: he had a doctor’s note. (Of course, his dad was a doctor.)

Rin and Nina were there in spirit as well, and Susan accepted the flowers from Rin on my behalf.

Sean Smith once remarked in the 1980s that he anticipated the Olives would “commute to their reunion together from their parents’ homes—where they will all still live—in the same van.” There was less carpooling than one might suppose, though I still lived with Keith that year.

Those present include: film editor Kate Sanford, attorney (and former mayor of Culver City) Sandi Levin; horse breeder Vikki Burnham; SF/fantasy writer Janine Ellen Young; John Turley (behind the camera); freelance photographer Jonathan Mandel; physician Sue Jane Perry Hall; Alex Melnick; Alison Arnold; Robin Melnick; CGI expert/mathematician Keith Goldfarb (with his now-wife, whom I’d love to name but will not); computer graphics expert Eric Enderton; writer/illustrator Doselle Young; attorney Margaret Baumgartner; mathematician Paul Lockhart; programmer Dean Oisboid and his wife, Debbie; neurobiologist and writer David Linden; scanning expert and entrepreneur David Coons.

About a month later, David Linden and Dean Oisboid each got married. On the same day, but in different states. Several months later, Kate Sanford gave birth to her first son.

Six months later, still working that crazy job, I quit drinking.

Dean’s been encouraging us to do this again, but I don’t even know if he’ll be in the country at that point. Besides: “it is distinctly possible to stay too long at the Fair” (Joan Didion).

So, you’re not there? Hmm. Very interesting then. And no Thunderbird in a brown paper bag?
