The iPad

. . . as Kindle killer. That sounds about right to me, though—granted that I can’t afford either one of ’em—I might still prefer the Kindle, for its non-reflectiveness and the (crucial) fact that one can take notes on its pages.

Also, it’s the reader for a Luddite, which is what I am when it comes right down to it.

The only thing that would persuade me to not-buy the iPad over not-buying the Kindle might be the ability to blog from the iPad more easily, though I understand that one can do it from either machine, in a somewhat clumsy fashion. Still, the iPad’s screen keyboard, from what I’ve heard, sucks less than the keyboard buttons on the Kindle. And there are those moments on planes when a notebook is so clumsy to get out, and yet one wants to take notes, draft out a blog entry, or simply write in one’s journal.

If that’s easier to do on the iPad, I might not-get that instead of the Kindle. Actually, I should not-get both of ’em. Either one would be great to not have around.

I am not getting the Ipad, and already have the Kindle. I regret getting the Kindle. Its internet searching abilities are SO slow and black and white, so one can’t use it as an internet browser of last resort.

The main reason to get an Ipad is not the device itself, (tho it is pretty and shiny), but the cheap internet access on the go, without being bullied into a contract. It is UNLIMITED. If you get a wireless broadband card or mobile hotspot, you pay $70 minimum a month and are locked into a two year contract, with a monthly limit of 5 GB a month (gets used up in a day or two of my teenaged kid watching Youtube videos and pron…er…educational materials). By contrast, the Ipad gets unlimited email and internet for only $30 per month and you can turn it on and off as you need to. I already have an Iphone, which works up north, so I know we get AT and T service there. So this gives one the ability to actually read web pages and blog on something bigger than a 3.5 inch Iphone or 2 inch Blackberry screen….The real news of the Ipad is the cheap mobile internet without a contract, which will change the mobile internet market IMHO.

Yes, I LUST after an Ipad. Anyone who has to work in an office and can’t get home to update their blog during the day does too. Tho you would have to use it on breaks or lunch hours if you work with an anti-tech boss… If you work out of your home, no point in getting one, as you don’t have to go on the internet on your own device. But I just got another camera a month ago, so that’s enough greed and piggery for me….
