Okay, Mr. President. I’m a Teabagger, If You Insist.

by Little Miss Attila on May 5, 2010

I actually have a liberal friend who insists that when lefties deploy the term “tea bagger” against tax/deficit protesters, it’s okay. Because: 1) It isn’t homophobic—after all, gamers use the term “tea bagger” as an expression of dominance. (Translation: it’s only patriarchal/sexist, but in the good way.)

Also, 2) out of the millions of people who identify with the tea party movement, one guy on our side did use the term “tea bagger” deliberately, about fourteen months ago. (“Let’s tea-bag the deficit-spenders,” or some such.) So you see how that’s respectful, right? One member of a marginalized group used a slur against that same group, so the dominant culture can do the same. I’m sure if I used the phrase “nigger,” my friend would see it in exactly that same light.

Me, I’m with Ace: after defending myself against the slur a few hundred times, and explaining why the metaphorical basis for the slur is homophobic and sexist, I’m back to “yeah. I’m a teabagger.” But you know what that means from a girl, right? This isn’t like the deal about how Spadilio’s crew discuss dipping their balls into pudding because it creates such an excellent sensation, so the girls resort to “nip-dipping.” This has to do with metaphorically placing the spherical objects in question into someone’s mouth, and let’s face it: only one guy on the planet deserves to experience my boobs in that way.

No, Mr. President: a female “tea bagger” would probably just take a crap in your mouth while you were sleeping off a coke binge or something.

Now open wide.

There are people who, hearing the word “tea party” used to refer to an anti-tax movement resistant to big government, think of the Boston Tea Party. There are others who are put in mind of having testicles dangled in their mouths. Two Americas. Insist on the distinction and let people identify themelves.
