Yes, I Saw the Point He Was Making. But It Was Funny, Nonetheless.

Stewart Baker:

“I don’t think we open champagne when the wholesale price of cocaine hits new lows.”

Some people do, though. Some people definitely do.

(Not that I ever understood cocaine. I tried it once or twice, and it seemed like the most pointless drug ever invented. It’s a chemical language that my body simply doesn’t speak.

Acid, I remember fondly. But I think Norbert was right: he used to tell me, “when you’re done with LSD, you’ll be done. And you’ll know when that is, and have no desire to do it again.” That’s about right.)

Too true, but be forewarned: them acid flashbacks may be a comin’.

Acid? Tried it exactly two times, and both were major disappointments. Psilocybin was a much more enjoyable way to explore Inner Space. (Wish I’d been around back in the daze when The Brotherhood of Eternal Love was cranking out “Orange Sunshine” tablets — my experience might have been quite different.)

As for cocaine, I agree — it did exactly nothing for me. Truth be known, I get a better buzz off a cup of ordinary coffee. And I’ll always associate that stuff with a particular sort of callous, cold assholery that infested popular culture during the era of silver spoons and bleeding septums.

Some people are wired for stimulants and some aren’t. I found coke to be wildly overpriced for a short and not very interesting experience. I found psychedelics to be a mixed bag, but like Mikal, I found mushrooms more enjoyable than acid.

I’d be interested in trying Salvia Divinorum, but it strikes me as the kind of thing you REALLY need a sitter for, and I don’t think I want any of my friends to see me looking like that much of a retard.
