Getting Ready

. . . for natural disasters, in all kinds of ways.

One never knows what will happen: after an earthquake the supplies in my trunk jump to their maximum level, and then they taper downward until the next disaster reminds me again, and I start to add things to the box again.

After 9/11 I no longer only kept a spare pair of hiking boots under my desk (with water, a flashlight, and some snack bars), but also tennis shoes, which would be better-suited to running from a terrorist attack than to hiking through shattered glass along the Wilshire corridor (which is the earthquake scenario, of course, and the reason for the boots).

But Gerard is right: the photographs and the Bible are the most important things of all.

You might want to favor the boots. Never know when you’ll need to kick a terrorist in the nuts.

If they have any, that is…
