Were You Just at The Anchoress’s Site?

That horrible woman ran the first two videos from episode 4 of James Burke’s masterful Connections series on the history of technology, which dates to the 1970s (in case his groovy pants don’t tip you off to that fact). I think she wants you to know that the Church rescued civilization. We know; we know.

So I had to watch the entirety of Episode 4, ten minutes at a time, YouTube style. Had to.

And here is how it ends:

The final establishing shot will make you gasp. At least, it did that to me.

Connections was such a great show. It is surprising to realize how old it is. It was also interesting to see Ellis Island such a wreck, I think it is all fixed up now. And the WTC must have been nearly newly finished when that was filmed. I’ve got the 70s nostalgia going now!

But then Burke drank the global warming KoolAid…He was right, though, about the world ending in the 1980s when the Gulf Stream stopped forever. Just as Carl Sagan was right with his “Nuclear Winter” model on “Nightline” that billions and billions of people would die as a result of couple days of the wells burning in Iraq at the end of the first Gulf War. Ted tried to give him a way out of the prediction, but he insisted it would happen even if he could snap his fingers then and there and have all the fires out instantly.

Yes, she is horrible, but in so many gloriously magnificent ways.

the final scene where the partially closed doorway made it look like a giant phallic symbol?

When the credits were rolling..

That one?

Hearing him say “…fall down.”

…then removing the cards to show the WTC gave my goosebumps…
