More on “Blogola”

by Little Miss Attila on August 23, 2010

Dan’s got another mini-roundup on Tucker Carlson’s fake scandal, and links me therein.

Clouthier has some great thoughts at Liberty Pundits. And here’s an oldie-but-goodie from Instapundit.

I always reserve the right to take actual money for what I spend so many hours a week doing. And my background is in magazine publishing, where the editorial department is generally subordinate to the “publishing” (advertising) department, and sales reps can get stories killed, or get roundups magically expanded (even at the last minute) to include advertisers’ products. Yet there remains a nearly psychotic disconnect between my editorial career and my blog, because I have never accepted a dime to publish a story. (Why would someone pay me, anyway? Have you read this thing?)

I was offered a fee once, to write a book review. I turned it down.

I do accept books and CDs for the purpose of reviewing them or mentioning them. I have accepted meals, and some lodging on trips that I took for informative purposes.

If I had any kind of ongoing business relationship with a candidate or committee, I’d place it on my sidebar, and mention it in multiple entries. I tend not to blog at all about strictly editorial clients.

UPDATE: Oh, and here is Dan’s “official” response to the attack from The DC Caller.

Pay me! Me! I’ll take it! Ah, who am I kidding. Handloader Magazine offered to buy an ad on my little blog, then I put up a link to them and now the only time I hear from them is when my subscription needs to be renewed. Foo.
