“Don’t Get Cocky.”

by Little Miss Attila on September 1, 2010

There are a handful of really interesting perspectives on the upcoming fall elections over here at Insty’s.

What do you think?

1) Is the Senate in play this autumn?

2) Will the upcoming GOP legislative victories be helpful to conservatives and/or Republicans (and/or libertarians) in 2012, or will they be their undoing? Will more Republicans in the House and Senate simply serve as a focal point for Democratic anger in the next Presidential election?

3) What sort of vision should conservatives and/or Republicans (and/or libertarians) work with over the next 1-3 years? Moderation? Compromise? Or fighting back against the policies that are currently being promoted?

Hi Joy, Since you asked,
I think they should de-fund everything the regime has done thus far and if they get a majority, work towards impeachment and criminal procedings against Obama, Pelosi, Reid, and all the Obamacare bribe takers, but that’s just me, a bitter clingon -er- clinger. If the Republicans do anything resembling compromise or bi-partisanship IMHO, we’re doomed, they will never regain any credibility. If they get a majority, they must strike the beast with as much force as possible to gather momentum for 2012. Maybe then we’ll see a viable candidate emerge for the presidential election who can weather what will be an immense storm to be sure.

The problem will be that the media and remaining Democrats will still be sticking to their “If only we didn’t have any Republicans, we could totally get stuff done!” approach, and it’ll make sense this time because there’ll actually be enough of them.

The Charlie Christie approach would be best, methinks. Mild nodding to social-con issues (it’s all you can really ask for in a 50-50 split country) and snatching 1-3% reductions each year with the soundbites of “You really won’t cut things by 1% ? You think that’s insane?” ringing constantly out of Capital Hill. If the economy remains horrible, 3%. If it gets better, a quiet 1%.

We can hypnotize them by painting everything beige. That way they’ll think they are in the Oval Office, instead of the Outer Ozarks.

Well, I think that the first item of business is a complete do-over, as much as possible, of the last two years. Repeal Obamacare, defund the TARP, kill Fannie and Freddie, make the Bush tax cuts permanent. BUT, do it in a manner that has a positive spin. Enact the health care reform measures that the Republicans suggested during the debate. IF we take the Senate and House, it will be a powerful message that people want to see a new direction. The Democrats have spent the last two years claiming that the Republicans had no ideas. Prove them wrong.

I think we’re in so much trouble that the only good we’ll get from a GOP “victory” (which I expect) is a bit of grid-lock (those rare moments I love because the politicians can’t harm us).

The Tea Parties have pushed some good fresh names who I believe will get elected. Awesome! Even better though, they’ve pushed a few Establishment figures out. It’s good to see the electorate inflicting some pain for a change. Politicians should fear “We the People,” so this is a good start. Hold their feet to the fire!

But … The economy is going to get worse. A lot worse. Treasuries are under pressure and the writing is on the wall for the dollar. It’s over. More bank bailouts lurk around the corner (bigger too), federal revenue will continue to shrink … Depressed yet? ‘Cause there’s more …

So, Republicans will do what they’ve always done, raise taxes, bailout the banks, increase federal spending, they’re even already on board with an IRA confiscation scheme (auto IRA) among other disasters …

I primarily blame them, and for good reason too. But it’s hard to ignore ourselves, as in “We the People” … whether it’s military, medicare, social security, welfare, etc., we all have our sacred spending cows, we all want Washington to solve some kind of problem, we demand too much of the Establishment … and our chickens have come home to roost. It will be 10-20 years before the markets “recover.”

As the economy gets more frightful, the people will get more angry … I wouldn’t be surprised if the Republican Party was relegated to 3rd-party status by 2012. “Change” is coming our way alright … God help us all.

A constitutional amendment to ban bailouts and subsidies. Challenge the Democrats to support it, with the promise that any Democrat not supporting it will be painted as someone who wants to take tax dollars from middle class and poor people and give them to corporate fat cats. A whole lot of the left wants subsidies and bailouts to end.

Played right, the Democrats will have no choice.

Then watch as the corporations, having lost much of their stake in big government, begin to lobby for small government instead.

1. Yes.

2. Helpful. Anything that sends Rand Paul, Miller, et al to congress improves the conservatarian position.

3. Defund, repeal and rebuild, enforced by the threat of further primary defeats for GOP “same old, same old” bots. Make the Ruling Class fear us. That will nullify their natural hatred of us.
