Church-Goers More Likely to Become Overweight?

by Little Miss Attila on March 25, 2011

AllahP is perplexed.

Well, I’d say the obvious explanation is that “food is the good girl’s sex.” And, if the study concentrated on Protestants, it could well be that we are dealing with a high concentration of teetotalers–who are, I suspect, very likely to use carbs as a substitute for alcohol when it’s time to wind down at the end of the day.

Without data from those of other faiths, or adherents of other strains of Christianity, or (preferably) non-Americans, one just cannot begin to guess. (Though that clearly didn’t stop me.)

“Fear of desire and appetite.” Hm . . . I feel like I’ve heard that notion somewhere . . .

(Video above is from the Fathead people, who promote limiting our carb intake in a non-extremist, non-Atkinsey way.)

Doesn’t say they controlled for having had children– I know that popped me right up there.

How they measured BMI is important too– the height/weight/waist version is very inaccurate for physically active folks; the height/weight one is just stupid inaccurate.

All those church potlucks take their toll.

And the toll is delicious.

Is this what the Nanny State is going to use to shut down religion?
It fits well with Mayor Boobergs’s, Michelle’s, and the rest of our ruling class’ ideas.
It for our own good, you see.
And the science is as indisputable as spastic climate change.
No show choirs were harmed during the research phase. . .

Looks like they chose a study group most likely to vote Republican. I’ll bet someone’s tax dollars funded this.

If another study shows that living on public assistance correlates highly with being overweight, we’ll never see it published.

“Is this what the nanny state is doing to shut down religion?” When the government takes away churches’ generous tax breaks you can get worried.

People living on public assistance are often highly religious. They do not always abide by the letter of religious teaching, but then again very few of us do.

Heavily religious areas of the US probably overlap with places that have a lot of obesity in any case.

Went to Eastern Europe for some time and was pretty shocked to come back to the US. What really struck me was the young — they are a lot heavier here. Wonder how this correlates with the study.

Communism Before Effort, yep them churches are flush these days, with that Obamanomics and all.
We can eliminate all tax breaks. Suggest that to your Democrat favorites. And I do mean all tax breaks.
There is no reason that NPR and public television can’t pay their fair share given the revenues generated by cash cows like
Sesame Street. All of Soros non-profits should be looked at too. It might be the only way to get some of that Soros money since he keeps it offshore.
And hidden.

The whole tax code needs to be simplified and made tighter. Close any loopholes or breaks for NPR, Planned Parenthood, Focus on the Family, GE, Boeing, SarahPAC, the Cato Institute, the ACLU, the Southern Poverty Law Center and MoveOn.org, or any non-profit with a budget over $500,000.. All of them.

Amused by Communism Before Effort. I prefer Carry Burdens Equally.

That would be a flat tax.
