Robert L. Hymers III Indicted for Grand Theft Auto, Identity Theft, Fraud

Involved in the web of schemes alleged against baseball player Lenny Dykstra;
Bail set at $500,000 for Dykstra and Hymers

Today’s Los Angeles Times carries the news that Robert L. Hymers III has been indicted in an elaborate series of frauds, alongside baseball player Lenny Dykstra and a friend of Dykstra’s, Christopher Gavanis.

Radar is reminding everyone that Dykstra is supposedly a friend of Charlie Sheen’s, but our readers will recall Leslie Hymers from his attempts to report me to the FBI for being part of a “hate group” (that is to say, survivors of his father’s quasi-Christian cult, The Fundamentalist Baptist Tabernacle). Regulars here will be chagrined–but not surprised–to know that young Leslie’s bail was set as high as that of ringleader Lenny Dykstra, at $500,000, in yesterday’s indictment.

Los Angeles County prosecutors said Dykstra, 48, along with his accountant Robert Hymers, 27, and friend Christopher Gavanis, 30, tried to claim credit through a phony business and stolen identity. Beginning in January, the trio tried to lease high-end cars from several area dealerships.

“He [Dykstra] has scammed everybody he knows,” Deputy Dist. Atty. Alex Karkanen said. “They faked pay stubs. They faked income information for the company. They made it all up on a laser printer at home. And when the dealers asked for a co-signer, they said their financial officer would sign.”

The so-called financial officer was actually an unsuspecting customer of the accountant [Robert L. Hymers III], Karkanen said, adding, “He knew nothing about them using his identity.

At two dealerships, Dykstra and Hymers provided information for the “co-signer,” but the leases were not approved. At one of the dealerships, Dykstra, Hymers and Gavanis provided fraudulent information and drove off with 2011 models of a Ford Mustang, Ford Flex and Lincoln MKS, Karkanen said.

Maria Ramirez, head deputy district attorney in charge of the auto fraud unit, said Dykstra’s company, Home Free Systems, “doesn’t even exist.… He’s hardly a financial guru.”

They “presented the company like it was making millions of dollars when it was not,” Ramirez said.

Veterans of Hymers’ father’s churches recognize, sadly, the pattern of deception that was built into this young man’s psyche from an early age, and it appears that he has taken on his father’s sociopathic tendancies and ability to play fast-and-loose with the truth.

Along with fits of rage, his father’s management style was characterized by the “kiss up, slap down” quirk shared by so many third-rate middle managers, so it appears that he was taught to value quite highly the notion of having a celebrity client; it’s tough not to speculate that this is part of what led him astray. One former member of one of R.L. Hymers’s churches called yesterday’s developments “tragic.”

UPDATE 2: Another cult survivor writes:

For some years, after most of us had left the church, R.L. Hymers, Jr., targeted older people with declining faculties. They would work on them to get their inheritances, and may still be doing it. This was a significant source of income for the church.

Although it was legal, the man who thought of this and systematized it is man that produced [Robert Leslie Hymers III]. It’s the most blatant I can think of . . .

(This one is especially interesting to read after young Leslie’s indictment; here’s the money graf, from the kid’s attorney’s letter to me:

Ms. McCann said, “You are a young person, and I do not think it is a good idea for you to drag yourself into the public eye.” Our client already is in the “public eye,” because his name is the same as his father’s. The message of the “Hymers-watcher” religious hate group, of which you and Ms. McCann are members, has already disparaged the name of Robert L. Hymers across the world via the Internet. Our client not only has nothing to lose by defending his father but he is obligated to do so because of the name they share.

So, well. There we go.)

Well it looks like justice has finally caught up with your would-be accuser. But dude! running with “Nails” Dykstra?

I though everyone knew he was broke. He was a former baseball player, who at one time fancied himself a market player, but in the end was just another bunko player…

My Regards

I noticed I was suddenly getting an awful lot of interest in an old post I wrote on this character over a year ago, back when he was talking about filing a complaint with the FBI and threatening legal action. Had to come here to find out the reason why. So, the government believes it can prove he was out there running scams and being careless with the truth.

Sounds familiar.

Linked at my site and my cross-post on Common Sense Political Thought (in case the backtracking doesn’t work as is unfortunately frequently the case in my backtracks and pingbacks).

Wow, definitely sounds like some shady business is going on. Although I since more than just a hint of bias journalism from the post above. Why so much hate??

Are you a Hymers cult member? Why so much distortion in your comment?

Distortion? I don’t understand what you mean by that. As for this cult business. I know nothing of it, nor do I care to know anything about it, beyond what was read in this post. I’d appreciate it if you did not attempt to lump me with a bunch of idiots in some cult.

I was just curious as to why I clicked a link expecting to read about the Lenny Dykstra scandal, and ended up reading more about his scumbag accountant’s FATHER, than I did about anything else.

My curiosity has already faded concerning the matter, as I went on to read actual new articles, so I’ll leave you all to your own business.
