Reversing the “Great Migration”

by Little Miss Attila on June 22, 2011

A lot of black people are moving to the South, including the grandkids of people who moved to the North and the Midwest to get away from the Old South of Jim Crow laws.

We killed Jim Crow down here. I do believe we have better inter racial relations in the old confederacy than they do in Detroit or Chicago.

The Federal Government rules made us change, everyone didn’t like it but the vast majority figured out that we had to get along if we were going to live together. So, we tried. And it’s amazing how things work if we try. The funny thing? Where our Black and Hispanic citizens live the worst lives are those pockets of our land that are ruled by Democrats.

As someone who grew up in the Detroit suburbs (corner of Mound Road and 24 Mile Road, for those who are familiar with the area), I can tell you that the white flight of the past decades has made race relations unnecessary in Detroit. The people have self-segregated.

It wasn’t just civil rights. A lot of blacks moved North because those big city public housing projects offered them a higher standard of living than they had down South. Hard to believe, and no longer true. The Detroit story has some truth, but blacks who can afford to are moving out of the city to 12 Mile and 13 Mile. I don’t know about 24 Mile yet.
