AllahP? Are You Fucking Serious?

by Little Miss Attila on December 7, 2008

Your assertions that the policy differences between Huckabee and Palin are minor simply stagger me:

The clip raises a point I neglected in yesterday’s post about Huckabee vs. Palin: How does Huck expect to compete with her among the base when Rush, Hannity, Ingraham, et al. are head over heels for her? His relationship with Limbaugh in particular has been flatly antagonistic at times, with Rush phoning into Fox News after Huckabee won Iowa to declare him wanting as a Reagan Republican. Is Huck thinking they’re a non-factor, or is it that he expects to charm them sufficiently to make their preference for Palin tepid enough not to matter? As for Rush’s theory about why the media dislikes the ‘Cuda, how come they don’t seem to have a similar antipathy to a guy from Arkansas who used to eat squirrel? It can’t be the policy differences between the two; there simply aren’t that many.

Aren’t that many? How do I count the ways, Buddy?

Allah’s post, of course, has him riffing off of the Limbaugh/Walters interview, which I liked. Because I dig Rush, even after all these years:

Allah! Palin is a libertarian/conservative who makes practical concessions to liberals when she needs to, but is largely committed to shrinking government to the degree she possibly can. Huck thinks everything would be fine and dandy if the government regulated everything—including what we eat. There’s really no freaking comparison to be made between the two. Sarah’s not perfect, but she’s aware that the proverbial State that can give you everything you want can also take from you anything it likes.

And on the hunting issue . . . um, City Boy? Are you seriously comparing the taking of moose with squirrels? If so, what are the Boone & Crockett requirements for a true trophy-quality squirrel? How about Safari Club International?—what record does it list for squirrel?

How come no one at Hunting magazine has a squirrel in his or her office? Apparently, shooting a squirrel is on the same level of achievement as taking big game. Which makes CalTech Girla big-game hunter, in addition to her other accomplishments. Who knew?

By the way: How many murderers did Governor Palin pardon in an average year, compared to Governor Huckabee?

The reason that the “elite” don’t look down on a folksy Governor of Arkansas (like the one who got elected President of the United States—twice) has nothing to do with big game vs. small game. It has to do with the fact that Huckabee doesn’t represent a threat to the cultural elite and the mainstream media. Palin does. Why? Because she is bright, and because she has principles.

Allah, I’ve come to respect you over the years. But in this Huck vs. Palin thing, I’d really like to know what you’re smoking. And where you got it. And how I can get some.

I’m amazed at the fact that Huckabee seems to be getting so much support. Having in-laws in Arkansas and talking to them about the Huckster, I can tell you that people there hated his ass while he was governor, and still do. The nanny-state crap that he pushed through the legislature was and is ridiculous. So how come all of a sudden he’s a big Kahuna of the Conservatives?

I think he tends to lump together all republicans he considers to be too “folksy” for him, regardless of the actual ideological differences.

If not for Palin, McCain probably would have lost by double digits… but had Huckabee been on the ticket, I would have either stayed home or cast a write-in vote for Fred.

AllahP is a smart guy, but I sometimes wonder if he’s ever set foot outside NYC. The fact that he can conflate Huckabee with Palin just floors me.

Excellent post, LMA. You are dead on about the differences in the two.

One of the things I liked about Palin (among the tons!!!) is that she was mostly able to understand the difference between being religious and making that religion part of her policy. She doesn’t. From my POV, she understands that the purpose of an elected official is governance, not pushing morality.

My primary opposition to Huck is that he puts morality over governance. Morality should be the province of private individuals and groups. Let them handle those issues, such as mostly happened with Prop 8 (great example,) while elected officials deal with law and governance. Not saying morality should be completely forgotten, it is obviously important, but, guys like Huck have made it part and parcel of their policy. They are not running for a job in a Church.

Yeah; I think it would be swell to live under a Christian version of the Taliban. It would just rawk.

You just answered your own question.

He simply needs an excuse to rile up the Palin fans. He’ll soon get bored enough that he’ll play with them like he did the FredHeads. AP can be a cruel fellow.
