Seriously: at the time I was cursing myself for not showing up early, and being shuffled off into one of the several “overflow ballrooms,” where I had to see this on a large screen. However, in retrospect I’m glad I was able to capture every little, um, nuance contained therein. All I can do for anyone–left, right, or center–is to beg you not to read the transcript. Rush did not just deliver this speech; he performed it. There are moments when he does ironic, actor-ey takes inside of ironic, actor-ey takes, and it’s delicious.
You may not agree with what he says any more than you usually agree with what he says, but you will appreciate this masterful piece of performance art.
And even though this sort of thing is old-hat to sports fans, one must appreciate the fact that the video has CPAC’s copyright info watermarked into the background, but whenever Rush’s head moved over it, the CGI watermark moved. That made me happy.
