Who should be at the top of the list for those who contributed to the weakening of America’s defenses?
Legal Insurrection makes an argument for placing WaPo at the top of the list—due to its oddball reporting on the value of Gitmo interrogations—though I’d suggest that the NYT has also earned a high ranking. Obama will need to own up to some responsibility, as will Hillary Clinton, who apparently feels that we can help Mexico out by increasing gun control in this country—rather than by searching/screening people who are crossing into Mexico as thoroughly as we search and screen those who are crossing back North from Tijuana back into San Diego, to ensure they are not “accidentally” carrying Cuban cigars or fireworks.
In the case of fireworks, there is an invention called a “metal detector” that might help to catch weapons that are going back into Mexico. Provided we closed the tunnels and other super-highways that bypass the checkpoints, we might be able to solve that problem without shredding the constitution; I’m just sayin’.

Don’t you figure the screening of southbound traffic is really Mexico’s responsibility? This whole thing is a red herring–the aim is to provide justification for a new assault weapons ban. So…our freedoms are causing problems in another country? Nah. I’d say it is our prohibitions that are causing the problem. If we took the drug trade out of the hands of criminal cartels, the whole drug-trade-violence-destabilizing-Mexico thing would go away.
And no, I don’t think our drug “problem” would get any worse. The people that want to, use. Those that don’t, don’t. The “war on drugs” has at most a marginal effect.
