“O, Canada.”
Yeah; I can tolerate Steven’s stereotypes about Canadians, Frenchmen, and even Jews in a way that I cannot tolerate his stereotypes about Latinos. This is probably related to the fact that none of the first three groups contribute to a numerically significant, slavelike underclass in my particular part of the world.
At the same time, I recognize that Crowder loves him some broad comedy. (That is to say, comedy that is broad in the brush is paints with . . . oh, you know.)
UPDATE: Stacy McCain takes me only slightly out of context.
I think it is clear what’s going on in this post: I’m trying to figure out what pushes my bigotry button. Crowder’s immigration video did it; that baker in D.C. who made “drunken Negro” confections over Inaugeration Weekend did it. But even when Crowder made the illegal immigration installment of his video series, I was wondering why I didn’t personally mind his surrealistic merging of the “build a fence” notion with the Israeli “wailing wall,” and his portrayal of a Jewish person wailing in front of a fence. I didn’t, you know. And I wondered at myself for my lack of offense.
The answer was that Jews are not an underclass, a group used as a source of ultra-cheap labor, so to use their religious observations as a subject of comedy didn’t strike me as unseemly. Edgy, but not out-of-bounds.
Everyone traffics in stereotypes; it’s merely a question of whether you are perceived to be kicking someone when they are down. Given the amount of suffering caused by racial and sexual stereotypes in the past, non-comedians had probably best walk softly, when they can. Still, the taking of offense is a rather subjective thing—and my own reactions, decidedly so.

I should just alternate between crediting Hot Air and Big Hollywood, but this week it happens to be Hot Air from which I grabbed the vid.

But the video still played, didn’t it? Even when it had stray bits of code to the left and right of it? It just LOOKED untidy, no?
(R. Stacy McCain’s comment doesn’t show up, but it was something like [/a].)
Some people deserve a kicking.
Illegal aliens have earned theirs the hard way – with theft, rape, and murder.
Got hard data to back that up, Buddy?
