Quote of the Freakin’ Month!

Reynolds responds to Steyn, who is making the Boston Globe his bitch*:

MARK STEYN on the Tea Party movement. “Doing the job the Boston Globe won’t do, Glenn Reynolds, the Internet’s Instapundit, has been posting many photographs of tea parties. For a movement of mean, angry old white men, there seem to be a lot of hot-looking young chicks among them. Perhaps they’re just kinky gerontophiliacs. Or perhaps they understand that their generation will be the principal victim of this grotesque government profligacy.”

As I get older, the notion of kinky gerontophiliacs becomes steadily less troubling . . . .

Funny how that works, huh? Another friend, perhaps five years my senior, once confided that as he got old the category of “hot females” had simply expanded, but it never seemed to contract—he could still see what he had seen in 14-year-old babes when he was in junior high, and it was the upper age limit that continued to evolve.

UPDATE: Glenn bestows a ‘lanche (thank goodness; the traffic was taking a hit lately), and remarks “it’s nice to be appreciated.” Well—likewise, I’m sure.

* Read Mark’s column in the Orange County Register. Steyn’s A Man for All Seasons quote makes a bit more sense if you’ve also read The Merchant of Venice, by the way.

Oh, how he loves to wedge quotations and puns into his prose! Rhetorically speaking, he pays a great price for the small slice he gets from that stylistic citrus.

Steyn is a dirty, undocumented journalist from Can-uh-duh.

Actually, he’s documented, but it’s a secret. I just cannot believe his prowess in keeping up with politics here, in Canada, on the Continent, and in the UK. Plus: musicals!

If I hadn’t caught both him and Dennis Miller in a couple of tiny, tiny mistakes, I’d hang up my commentary hat for good.

I’ve said that. And also that it gives me the heebies to think of what I will see in those 70 year old “hot babes” when I get there…
