Well, I Retract the Word “Rape” from My Criticisms of Mr. Letterslime.

Via Fausta.

And, from the indispensable Carol of No Sheeples Here, a new battle flag:

Have you written a letter today?

Have you written a letter today?

Sebastian Gray of HillBuzz tells us how it’s done.

It sounds like Letterboy just got mixed up about which hillbilly slime in the Palin clan was which, so the joke was only based on the fact that the females in that family are really slutty. Not a rape joke; a joke about how those who disagree with Mr. L politically are nappy-headed hos.

So I regret any misunderstanding I that may have arisen from my use of terms like “dismember the filthy pervert” or “child-molesting senior citizen.”

The jokes he was making were simply based on the notion that the Governor of Alaska is a tramp, and that her 18-year-old daughter, a single mother, is a whore.

So the dirty old Letterman is not making statutory rape jokes after all, and we can all calm down.

And start writing letters to Letterman’s sponsors and the CBS execs. (BTW, I have heard that ancestry.com claims not to be a Letterman sponsor after all; can someone check on this?)

Of course, that may be what the show’s producers want us to do: make Letterit a sort of martyr among the left, in the hope that he’ll get extra publicity—and maybe some pity views—from being picked on by the right wing.

Why not? It worked for Katie Couric. Oh, wait . . .

UPDATE: Todd Palin, via Conservatives4Palin:

“Nice attempt by Letterman to draw the heat away from himself; however, Willow was the only one at the Yankees game and the only Palin child included in the photo opportunities with the Giulianis, as was obvious. Regardless of which Palin daughter it was, Bristol, Willow or Piper, these sexually-perverted comments are outside the acceptance of mainstream America.”

And Tim Blair, who has lots more:

So Sarah Palin went to a baseball game with her 14-year-old daughter, Letterman cracked wise about Palin’s daughter being knocked up by a baseball player during the game, but he was really talking about another daughter who . . . wasn’t at the game. Makes sense.

Yes: it was the one who has an infant at home. The single mom who clearly has the freedom to take a trip to New York. The one who once got, in the phrase of Dirty Old Man Letterthing—himself an unwed father for six years—”knocked up.” (Yes. As with his use of the word “promiscuous” and his re-reading of the offensive jokes, it was a calculated move to get further cheap laughs from his audience, while pretending to apologize for getting cheap laughs.)

And, another statement from the Palins:

“The Palins have no intention of providing a ratings boost for David Letterman by appearing on his show. Plus, it would be wise to keep Willow away from David Letterman.”

At this point, I suspect that is for Letterman’s safety, rather than young Willow’s. Dave, how does it feel to be reliant for your personal safety on the ladylike behavior of a 14-year-old you’ve sort-of called a “whore”? Just askin’.

UPDATE II: Moe Lane:

I’ve decided that I don’t believe you. It’s because of the constant mugging for the camera, the frequent pausing for laugh lines, the phony forgetting of the husband and child’s name, the neglecting to mention that the first joke you recited—the one where you called a 14 year old a prostitute—was made the day after you called her mother a slut and cracked a joke about the 14 year old getting raped. And there wasn’t even a “sorry that you were offended”—which is the standard fake-apology that your type usually resorts to when someone complains. Instead, we got a “This is what I do.”

Yes. I suppose that it is.

Dan Riehl:

For too long, the Right has had to put up with being called homophobic, racist, misogynist, ignorant, or evil, ad infinitum – you name it, often for nothing more than trying to convey a legitimate political point.

Now we are watching one of our own being maliciously assaulted with nothing more than utter filth being spewed at her … and we’re supposed to just take it. Most of the mainstream media hasn’t even acknowledged this is going on.

I’m telling you, people are pissed off – a lot of them. I don’t know where it’s all going and maybe it’ll take something else to finally explode somehow. But the anger over this is palpable, widespread and about more than just Sarah Palin. It’s about years of being told we are intolerant and intolerable when we are not and having to eat anything and everything an elitist liberal media culture throws our way.

Such anger does not go away. Eventually it’s going somewhere. When and how it gets to wherever it’s going, I’m not sure. But it’s going.

Don Surber:

Hey, support abortion and NOW and its pseudo feminists will let you get away with murder.

It is crude and it is wrong. But then, so were American newspaper editors for making Tina Fey their “entertainer of the year” for cruelly mocking Palin last year.

Small wonder Fey gets along so well with co-star Alec Baldwin, whose crude voice-mail to his 13-year-old daughter should have made him unemployable for life. But he supports abortion, so OK. The girl had it coming.

Perez Hilton calling Carrie Prejean the C-word and the B-word. Liberals said nothing.

Then there is the Playboy online article on 10 conservative women the author would like to rape. To its credit, Playboy deleted the online article. But if you want to see a perverted liberal mind, read it here.

This is what happens when you do not look at people as individuals, but rather as members of a group. Many liberals think all women must act a certain way, otherwise they are deviants and therefore, targets. The same with black people. This is why Clarence Thomas and Michael Steele face racism that is not visited upon the president.

The exception I would make here is to the Tina Fey impression: every politician get slammed on Saturday Night Live. (Though of course NNL, like the legacy media, are a bit more gentle with Obama.) I have no argument with Tina Fey: she did her job.
