Re: the Holocaust Museum Shooting

It’s like Ace and AllahP think the left is capable of antisemitism. If it were capable of that, it would be capable of misogyny . . .

The whole antisemitism thing? The left really cannot get away with pinning this on the right any longer. Their savior sat in the pews of an anti-semitic hate-monger for 20 years and only “distanced himself” when asked about it, late into the presidential campaign.

Exit question:

20 years spent in the pews of Trinity and who knows how many private conversations had with Wright, and yet not once did Obama ever encounter this sort of rhetoric from the good reverend, huh? Who, mind you, can’t even suppress it when speaking to reporters on the record. Remarkable.

And, for my own part, I had thought that Obama was surrounded by neoconservatives. Or maybe “New York money men.” People like that. But, sure: “Zionist” works, in a pinch. Whatever the market will bear.

Oh, and here’s Jeff, whom I’m either squabbling with or crushing on—I can’t remember which:

I can think of several disparate ways to map “anti-Bush, anti-war, anti-Israel, anti-Jew, anti-Christian, pro-eugenicist” onto certain “political classifications” — from the Paulites to any number of “progressives.”

In fact, I’ve been hammering away at this point since the early days of this site: the current progressive left and the fringe right have much in common, from their stance on trade and the war to their distaste for Israel.

The difference being that the fringe right is just that: fringe. Whereas the progressives? Well, they just happen to control the Executive and Legislative branches of the US just now, and so would hardly count as some “fringe” portion of the left.

So I suspect that, upon closer examination, some of the more observant and politically cautious pundits on left will find it prudent to begin walking back attempts to tie the Holocaust Museum shooter to any particular political ideology, lest people begin noticing a few uncomfortable similarities in political vision between this Nazi-sympathizing leftover from the Greatest Generation and the current political power holders.

My emphasis. Either that, or they’ll hold something shiny up in the air and go “ooh, purty! Sparkles!
