More on the Inevitability of IG-Gate

by Little Miss Attila on June 21, 2009

. . . from Stacy, who has a long entry on it that explains how the ethos of the newsroom will ultimately win out over reporters’ individual political leanings, and once the volatility in Iran is no longer the top news of the day, IG-Gate will still be there, bigger than ever. Yes.

I think this is very simple: 1) on a national stage, one cannot fire whistle-blowers willy-nilly. Even lefties don’t like that, because everyone understands what that does to the system: when burglars are encouraged to feed poisoned dog food to the Dobermans that guard the shop, Bad Things are likely to happen.

And, 2) the President broke—did not just bend, but broke—a law that he himself sponsored. There’s no defense to that, except for “well, when I passed legislation that aimed to clean up the Federal government, I didn’t foresee that I’d someday be the POTUS, and that I would long to run Washington, D.C. as if it were Chicago.”

That just lacks . . . poetry.

Stick a fork in Obama. He’s done.

The PUMA’s share your opinion on Obama’s doneness, however, I’m sketpical that Obama’s sycophants in the US media will ever hold him accountable for anything negative at all.

As exhibited on the linked thread, the Obot talking points are that the law Obama broke is of no matter & the real villain (surprise) is Walpin who (according to the Obots) was an evil meanie partisan Republican who deserves to be fired if not have his entire family raped like the Palins.

I concur with adagioforstrings. The MSM will do CPR on Obama until even they can no longer deny that their efforts will not keep in in office.

If the MSM were enough, Carter would have gotten a second term. It’s over.

While I respect your opinion, I think that you’re way off base here. Having been a teenager when Howdy Doody was president, I have a couple of thoughts on the matter:

1) Carter wasn’t as universally adored by the press back then, even the left-leaning press at the time.
2) Thirty years ago, there were a fair number of press people who actually cared more about getting the scoop and making their names off of a scandal than covering for someone they voted for.
3) Carter did not possess Obama’s melodious baritone voice, which seems to make many on the left wet themselves with delight.
4) The press didn’t have to cover for Carter during the 1976 election. Watergate and Ford’s pardon of Nixon provided pretty much all the impetus needed to elect an unknown governor from a Southern state.
5) Because you’re a reasonable person, you still cannot fathom the depths to which the bottom-feeding ass kissers in the MSM will go to protect the messiah that they worked so hard to elect.

Worst case scenario that I can envision? Some low level flunky in the Obama machine is forced to take the fall and resign and then we’re all told to MoveOn.

Hey, I hope that I’m wrong here. There is nothing I’d like better than an “I told you so” about this.

If he’s lost JibJab, he’s lost America.

Seriously: there are plenty of intelligent, educated people who believed what Obama said in the last campaign, and they aren’t going to make that mistake again.

He’s lost the centrists and independents like Ann Althouse and Megan McArdle, and there are plenty of left-liberal types who are looking at their 401(k)s right now who may stay with Big O in 1012, but may not turn out with much enthusiasm.

And the fluke that got him the Presidency–the economy–will, this badly managed, take it away.

I agree with you about Althouse, but I’m not convinced about Megan McArdle. She may deride as foolish some Obama machinations or stances, but if the economy turned around in spite of Team Barry’s best efforts, she’d still be a fan.

The reason that I say such a thing is that many of these ideas were well known last year and Megan still was a shoo-in to vote for the guy. Not that I think-or thought- that McCain was a good choice. I still think his campaign was bad enough to make me nostalgic for Bob Dole. However, the strongest stance that Megan ever took was along the lines of “this sort of thing doesn’t make me want to vote for McCain, but it does make it less likely that I’ll vote for Obama.” And there are a lot of starry-eyed morons who will think that Obama hung the moon, even while they’re burning their houses to try and stay warm.
