Final Word on Beer Summit.

Date August 1, 2009

Right here.

I used to be disgusted; now I try to be amused.

Of course, in ten or twenty years I may feel that this symbolism had some substance to it—that, being thought of as important may in some oblique fashion make it so. I’m thereby skeptical about this, but not downright cynical.

Since the President of the United States has always been an example (or should be)for our youth, it seems to me advertising the drinking of beer as something you do when getting together with friends or supposed enemies does nothing to convince our youth that drinking can be dangerous. Not that our president can’t drink a beer, but to publicize this beerfest does not help parents of teens who are trying to convince their kids to stay away from spirits. I remember after the last Democratic president, oral sex became the ‘in’ thing among teens.
