I Feel That If a Person Cannot Communicate with God . . .

Here’s my problem with atheism: So, I believe in God. I pray regularly, etc. I go so far as honoring my father and mother and not committing adultry. Of course I’m not quite sure if that part is more that .38 of Linda Lou’s but still, no adultry. So, here is the deal. If I’m wrong and die and there is no God, I have lost nothing. It’s helped me lead a fairly good (certainly not perfect) life and helped us raise four good kids.

Now I must say there are and have been some nonbelievers who’ve lead pretty good lives, too. But, what if they are wrong? Might suddenly get a lot hotter than global warming. Atheism is a just plain bad bet.

Well, the Ten Commandments are realy the least of it–as you point out, they are more utilitarian than anything else. To me, a spiritual life is marked more by prayer, meditation and reading of scripture (or other holy writing) than by good works.

I think to some of my scientist friends and my brother–and perhaps my mother–there’s a feeling of foolishness around the idea of prayer. It strikes them as a weak thing to do.

It’s those who feel the need to proselytize that seem to me to be either insecure, or angry at the God who clearly isn’t there.
