Suddenly, Joe Biden Is Looking a Lot Better.

Particularly if one attributes his gaffes to the brain aneurysms. He certainly seems to be the mammal in the White House. Surber’s got a nice mini-essay up on Sheriff Joe and the square he works with:

Say what you want about Joe Biden, but self-pity he has none. In a presidential campaign that had many a compelling biography (First black president! Prisoner of War! Mother of Trig!) Joe Biden had a very compelling one (raising kids after the tragic traffic death of his wife) and he didn’t say boo about it. Humility is an endearing trait.

Via Maureen Dowd, a White House aide: Biden is “the most beloved person in the White House.”

And then there’s this, from an article in U.S. News and World Report a few years ago: “As a child, Biden stuttered and was teased by his classmates. He practiced reading aloud in front of a mirror and worked hard to overcome it. During law school he befriended a stutterer and worked with him regularly on his speech. Now Biden is known as a loquacious orator.”

And for all he’s said, he isn’t the guy who thinks there are 57 states.

Can’t stand his politics. Mouth is a shoe-box. Doesn’t mean I think he’s a bad guy.

I gotta say, though– they probably didn’t bring up his kids because they were so busy going after Sarah Palin about “abandoning” her kids by being in politics, it’d look really bad if the single father was doing the same thing.

Oooh! Great line came to mind!

“He’s got a lot to be humble about.”
