. . . except that their executives appear not to have heard “National Palestinian Radio” before. And–surprise, surprise!–they look down on most citizens of this country, particularly those with any conservative ideals.
The shocker is the premise: the NPR execs took the meeting, despite the fact that the fake website of the fake Islamic organization promoted “spreading Sharia law.” The smoking gun is there before anyone sits down.
Via Hot Air.
UPDATE: Roger Simon wants them completely marginalized, but I still think NPR puts out some quality programming. I just think that they should be privatized, because there is a huge conflict-of-interest for any journalistic outfit to be funded by the government; there’s no way any real investigative reporting can take place under such circumstances.

To bad this loon was talking to a former NPR employee.
Is this type of unchristian behavior all that’s come from the wingnut blogosphere’s promise to do “original” reporting?
It’s more like a fart joke that’s told over and over and over again.
What is it about this you consider “unchristian”?
The lying part, cathy.
Nice to see you set yourself up as an arbiter of Christian morals.
BTW, what is *your* real name?
You know, that is an interesting point. I don’t see the lying as evil, or sinful, when it is done to expose wrong-doing. (I won’t trot out any dusty old examples.) But I don’t know whether there are any Christian denominations that hold that any lie is wrong, so you could be correct to that extent.
“I don’t see the lying as evil, or sinful…”
cathy,
Somehow, I don’t think God intended morals to be situational.
But, I know Republicans think of religi0n as a one way street, as in “What can the Church do for Me?!!?!”
Says the “man” who doesn’t believe that God exists and doesn’t believe that Jesus ever walked the Earth (see blog archives).
So what’s with the pretend scolding? Oh, Leftist bullshit–“hold them to their beliefs and morals..blah, blah, blah). It
never gets old. Notice that ponce thought that phone call to Gov. Walker with that Lefty clown pretending to be a Koch brother was
perfectly fine. Yeah, the Left has no morals or standards, so it doesn’t violate the deadliest of Lefty sins–hypocrisy! zzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Someone should still bash ponce’s skull in with the jaw bone of an ass—preferably his own. “Biblical” crimes are in vogue now–just saying.
It will be jury nullification if it ever gets that far. And you know Law and Order’s plot lines are running thin.
Darrell, please ease up on the colorful metaphors. Ponce, please ease up on being an obnoxious, insufferable a-hole.
Thanks.
Pureel,
It’s nice to have your bases covered.
If heaven does exist, I figure an honest atheist has a better chance of getting in than someone who claims to be a Christian but supports arbitrary wars, torture, the death penalty, lying to score cheap political points, etc.
He isn’t “former” yet…but hey, at least he agrees that NPR would be better served off the federal dole.
Yes, Darth, Brietbart’s goon tried to scam a former NPR employee.
Better luck next time.
He’s still there. He has given his notice, but he is still there.
“Former NPR executive Ron Schiller slams Republicans and the tea party movement and suggests that NPR would be better off without any federal funding in a hidden-camera video released Tuesday by conservative filmmaker James O’Keefe.”

You raise an interesting point.
Yet Jesus repeatedly healed people and told them not to spread the news, and sent the disciples ahead to Jerusalem for the feast before traveling incognito and alone.
Is investigative reporting intrinsically un-Christian?
What of whistle-blowing?
Your argument would take on more weight if it was backed up by a fully developed theory of Rules of Engagement for dealing with possibly corrupted organizations like NPR. Short of that, your argument appears to be a straightforward Alinsky hold-them-to-their-standards play, while possibly having no standards of your own.
Ho hum.
ponce’s shit never gets old.
Every American that ever spent time with ponce needs to pat themselves on the back for showing
supernatural restraint. ponce might not just be the biggest generator of Republicans, he might be right up there as the biggest creator of Saints.
You do crack me up. 🙂
Schiller’s job at Aspen Institute doesn’t start until April.
And his bio is still up at NPR:
http://www.npr.org/people/114335073/ron-schiller
And the announcement that he is changing jobs was just made today:
http://currentpublicmedia.blogspot.com/2011/03/ron-schiller-exiting-npr-for-aspen.html
“”Mr. Schiller announced last week that he is leaving NPR for another job.””
You snooze, you loose in the smear biz.
Note: “is leaving.” Not “has left.”
He announced he was leaving well before Breitbart tried to smear him, LMA.
Breitbart’s aim is worse than Sarah Palin’s.
Well, ponce you are so very good at being extremely personally offensive. Perhaps I am misinterpreting your remark; perhaps you spoke in generalities when you had in mind some particular Republicans you know personally.
Although, actually, the Church is here to serve the people, the faithful who attend, and those who do not but may benefit from whatever loving efforts The Church, or any church, makes. And, sometimes, questioning what one’s church is doing for the faithful/parish/congregation/individual/world is a legitimate question.
But I digress. Your more theological point was that you don’t believe God intends us to be situational. In this context, situational about when we do or do not apply the proscription against lying.
Certainly, God’s instructions to Moses, and through him to all who are exposed to His teaching, is Thou Shalt Not Lie.
Also, Thou Shalt Not Kill.
And Honor Thy Father and Thy Mother.
But if my dad goes nuts and comes after me with a butcher knife, I’m going to yell “No! Don’t shoot!” over his shoulder, thereby deceiving him in to hesitating, and use that moment to bean him with whatever is handy.
I believe this would be a situation in which I should be grateful to God for giving me reasonable judgement, some degree of quick thinking, and a well-stocked kitchen.
But it might be more useful to come back to the topic at hand — lying as part of investigative reporting. It has a long tradition, as do pretending to be someone you’re not in order to do undercover police work, and lying to suspects about what their accomplices have admitted, and tricking kidnappers into giving away their victims’ locations.
All lying, all in order to prevent or expose wrong-doing.
I don’t know how many Christians who would find these dishonesties wrong. (That could well be another, very intriguing, discussion.)
But I do understand why it might bother you in this instance particularly. It is never pleasant to see someone on “our side” of a philosophical or political divide expose some disappointing truth about himself, whether it is because we didn’t want that known about him, or we didn’t suspect it ourselves.
Exactly, Cathy.
And a Christian might say that Bill Ayers is a guy in his neighborhood and that he has a long form birth certificate.
And if all NPR clowns would tell us that they are leaving, we would have to spend months giving them enough rope to hang themselves.
Ooops. Pretend that metaphor went unspoken. Well, there’s still a day before I have to give them up for Lent. Voluntarily.
“All lying, all in order to prevent or expose wrong-doing.”
Calling disagreeing with your personal political beliefs “wrongdoing” is a pretty big leap of faith, cathy.
In fact, it doesn’t seem much different form, “because I say so.”
…seem much different form…
I knew you would be struck with dyslexia some day. And you say there isn’t a God?
Calling disagreeing with your personal political beliefs “wrongdoing” is a pretty big leap of faith, cathy.
Gosh, that’s a pretty good leap you got going yourself, ponce.
I thought we were discussing whether it is always morally wrong, sinful, or “unchristian” to lie. And I mentioned some situations in which I believe God would be OK with the mortals involved looking at things somewhat… situationally.
If you wish to change the subject, and discuss what in Mr. Schiller’s behavior I actually do consider wrong-doing, (since I suppose disseminating slanderous (Oh, crap, do I mean libelous?) characterizations of people who disagree with his personal beliefs, all while maintaining the pretense of being an un-biased member of an un-biased organ 0f the un-biased media, doesn’t count), I will just say that I think the possibility that npr would consider accepting a large amount of money from an organization representing the Muslim Brotherhood (yes, I know they renounced violence — just ask ’em) and which stated its own goals include “spread(ing) the acceptance of Sharia across the world,” well worthy of investigation.
“I will just say that I think the possibility that npr would consider accepting a large amount of money from an organization representing the Muslim Brotherhood…”
Cathy,
You do know Fox News’ biggest shareholder is a Saudi Prince who works tirelessly to spread Sharia Law around the globe, don’t you?
What would be the point of investigating a MB donation to NPR?
You’re right.
What’s the point.
I apologize — that was bitchy.
Obviously, yours was a rhetorical question intended to point out the futility of my personal hope that there are still ways to limit scope of what I consider a harmful influence.
I have to assume you have no more interest in bin Talal’s involvement with Murdoch and Fox News than you do with Judeo-Christian teachings regarding honesty. (I do appreciate the irony, though; implying you have a religious abhorrence for lying, to twit me, when you don’t believe in God to begin with.)
“I do appreciate the irony, though; implying you have a religious abhorrence for lying, to twit me, when you don’t believe in God to begin with.”
Finding a Christian who makes an effort to live up to what God supposedly expects of them would restore my faith in humanity, Cathy.
Your “faith” in humanity is exemplified by the thoughts of Margaret Sanger and the Club of Rome clowns.
No loss there. I do suggest that you pull those logs out of your various orifices rather than commenting about our splinters, though.
They look painful.
When the Dems stop the $61 Billion in spending cuts, I suggest that we throw $122 Billion on the table immediately. Let’s see
if they can figure what’s next.
Schiller may have announced to NPR that he was leaving NPR last week. That doesn’t mean that it was announced to the public.
And what about him having put in his notice changes anything. He was (and is still) a senior leader of NPR at the time of the video. Your affilation does not end until your separation date.
cathy,
I would point out that those phrases are not exactly correct. (Forgive me not using the King James english)
“You shall not lie” is more correctly “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor”
“You shall not kill” is more correctly “You shall not commit murder“.
Lying to the Nazis to protect the Jews hiding in your basement does not fall afoul of the first as while it is a “lie” it is not against your neighbor (the Jews) and is rather to protect them from someone who is most certainly not a neighbor to either of you.
Self defence does not fall afoul of the last even though it is “killing”. Jesus never required his followers to be pacifist (there’s a lot of sanctioned killing in the Bible and Jesus Himself instructed his disciples to arm themselves at The Last Supper)
So the idea that “lying” is everywhere and always unChristian is bad theology. (If it were, would that not make all fiction sinful? After all, they are by definition untrue?)
“You shall not lie” is more correctly “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor”
Thank you! That was awfully sloppy of me. (A bit too much over-simplifying with youngsters; not enough attention to the source material, King James or otherwise, I’m afraid.)
Besides, when was it ever a requirement for the “wingnut” side to be Christian? I know a whole lot of the right side who are at most agnostic, others that are atheist, and a couple that are down right anti-theist.
Oh, ponce, there are so many who try. Honestly. Most of us do better some days than others; I know a few people who are actually surprisingly good at it. I have no idea whether you are serious, or just being cynical last-word-ish. I wish I knew. I’d love it if you could feel better about “humanity.”
Let’s just say I’d be really impressed by a group of Republicans leading truly Christian lives, cathy.
Let’s see. Christianity is intensive care for sinners, not a luxury spa for saints.
Seems like those Republican “sinners” come to the right place then. Faux outrage for
using deception to expose Lefty idiots after praising deception with the phone call to Walker? Sounds like that
deadliest of Lefty sins. A trip to Phelp’s “church” (or Wright’s or Jones’) may be advisable. George Soros
might want to stop your pay as penance.
“Let’s see. Christianity is intensive care for sinners, not a luxury spa for saints.”
That’s the kind of low bar the Christians I know set for themselves, Purrel.
Be selfish, hated-filled dicks all week, get magically forgiven on Sundays.
It’s rather disappointing.
Well, tell me what you think a Republican is, and what you think a Christian is, and I’ll see if I can come up with a group that might “impress” you. Or restore your faith in humanity, whichever comes first.
I must admit, at this point it seems rather unlikely that you have any interest whatsoever in learning anything positive about either Republicans or Christians, and if presented with anything that counters your prejudices you will find a way to dismiss it or prove it fails in some respect. I could encourage you to talk to homeschooling moms, or college kids that spend their breaks on mission trips, or 20-year volunteers at crisis pregnancy centers, or retired businessmen in organizations that solicit donations from grocery-shoppers to support a school for developmentally challenged young people. But it would just be more foolishness on my part, because I know they wouldn’t measure up in some way to a standard you may have created just to argue with me.
Oh, dear, here we are, just over an hour into Ash Wednesday, and I’ve already “broken Lent.” I am supposed to be giving up cynicism. Also swearing, and spending so much time on the damned computer. 😉
I”m still trying to understand why somehow Republican = Christian. The two groups are not the same. There are plenty of Christian Democrats and Atheist Republicans. And yet it is only Republicans (Christian or not) that are held to some invented (and patently unChristian) standard that says that if they aren’t perfect they are the most contemptable of creatures.
That’s the kind of low bar the Christians I know set for themselves
Who are you hanging out with???
Obviously the wrong sort of people, cathy.
A charter member of the Lyin’Left saying it’s wrong to fib.
Priceless.
They should have said that the contribution was coming from Osama bin Laden.
Then let hilarity ensue.
Heck, if Air America could steal from a public charity to stay on the air (without repercussion apparently,) it would have been interesting to see
how far the Left would stoop.
And speaking of bib Laden, wasn’t Obama supposed to have snatched him up by now, unlike that dunderhead Bush? Is this going to be another scam
like Clinton freeing the MIAs in Vietnam because Reagan and Bush I didn’t care? [Apparently in Lefty-logic terms Carter didn’t have a say]. Speaking of Bush I, wasn’t he supposed to have died
before he finished his second term? What’s with all the lies on the Left?
If lying to the Left is a sin, it’s probably a venial one. Giving up something for Lent–like NPR funding–should probably cover it.
Was Schiller fired?
Poor NPR. They have a scoop and they can’t even get that right.
Now if that tape was shot in February[allowing the wesel to read the writing on the wall and get another job], let’s see how ponce will address that.
It should be fun unless he ignores it as he does all his argumentative shortcomings.
And the fact that he is a hatefilled dick seven days of the week.
Hope that lying well-meaning atheist defense works out for you. How could it not?
Add to it the promotion of evil with the Left and I’m seeing aces all around.
I’ll have to ponder the extent of my culpability regarding Roger Simon’s deception.
That’s a real tough one.
But I do hope that the Aspen Institute has a thick skin. Then again, who wouldn’t welcome bad PR like that?
See, I’m wishing Schiller the very best. Not very “hate-filled dick-like” at all.
Not like ponce and his “get asshole cancer and die” buddies at all.
Not in the least.
