The Latest Kimberlin-Related News

A few notes from Kimberwatchers around the ‘sphere:

• Aaron Walker’s Peace Order hearing is Tuesday morning in Rockville, Maryland, so if you’re in the mid-Atlantic area and have the time, you might want to attend, and support Aaron:

Kimberlin, who in 1981 was sentenced to 50 years in federal prison for his Indiana bombing spree and other crimes, has requested a “peace order” against Virginia attorney Aaron Walker, who says Kimberlin tried to “frame” him on an assault charge earlier this year. The final hearing on Kimberlin’s peace order request – which Walker has described as “frivolous” – is scheduled for Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. in Montgomery County District Court (191 E. Jefferson St., Rockville, Md. 20850), according to the court’s official Web site.

It would probably be useful for good citizens to be there as witnesses to whatever might go on before or after the hearing. I’m hoping there won’t be any “hotheads” from our side attending; this is the kind of situation that requires sober detachment, and people who can observe carefully without using recording devices. Obviously, if you have a good memory for verbatim quotes, or sketching skills, they can probably use your help.

• Robert Stacy McCain has also dug up another source of the lavish funding for Kimberlin and his cronies: a rich aunt of the Speedway Bomber’s.

• Erick Erickson has been “SWATted”: he was the victim of a false police report. This time, local sheriffs responded to a report of an “accidental shooting” on his property, and arrived during Sunday dinner (rather than in the middle of the night, as happened with the false police report that victimized the blogger Patterico).

Let’s note here once more that the term SWATting doesn’t mean that the armed response was a tactical SWAT-style unit—it just means that law enforcement was sent into what was represented as a life-or-death situation. In Erick’s case, it was a milder incident because of the time of day, the description of the incident as an “accident” rather than a murder, and because he had already warned his sheriff’s department that this tactic might be used against him. Consequently, the deputies showed up at Erick’s place with their hands on their sidearms, rather than with their guns drawn, as in Pat’s case.

• This SWATting harrassment is a deplorable waste of taxpayers’ resources that puts people’s lives at risk; it needs to be made illegal ASAP–at the state and Federal levels. Please send letters about it to your state and U.S. legislators. As Ace has suggested, the penalties for it should be severe, and “enhanceable” when it’s done for the purpose of stifling speech.

I’m also going to remind everyone that this isn’t a left-right issue: Brett Kimberlin is making money as a “leftist activist” because that’s where the money is. He has no problems suing leftists who blog about his past, nor with having Patrick’s Democrat wife roused from her bed, taken to her own front porch, frisked in front of her neighbors, and made to wait helplessly while her children are awakened by police to make sure they are alive, because a murder was maliciously reported at her residence.

This issue is, as Dennis Prager would put it, about “the decent versus the indecent.” The reason the right is agitating about it is that the decent lefties haven’t heard about it yet, and are still asleep. They may never wake up until this gets more ink from “mainstream” sources.

Now that Erickson has experienced this harrassment first-hand, will CNN—which employs him as a commenter—finally cover what’s going on?

I hope so.

The Left is going to fight to the death this time …

… we must be willing to do the same.

Or lose.
