If I Started Meditating More

. . . would it make me a better shot?

I suspect so, with a pistol or a rifle. And I’m not horrible at either. But Ted Hatfield used to encourage me to get into point-shooting with a scattergun. He was probably right: it would be lovely not to really aim—for shooting to be more like driving.

Oh, and speaking of driving—which I now am—(speaking, that is) I’ve been asked why I never test-drove my husband’s Jeep before I made him buy it. (Um. Encouraged him to buy it. Acted supportively regarding the purchase thereof.)

Simple: We rarely drive each other’s cars, and I can drive anything. My grandmother used to help establish the top speed of any new car she and my grandfather got. When my grandfather was drafted into the Army, she drove his truck delivery route the whole time he was gone, to hold the job for the family.

The Jeep had to be right for my husband—not for me. I’ll get behind the wheel eventually, just as he did with my Cruiser. But it can wait.

If it’s a technique that reliably produces pure consciousness (awareness without any particular thought), then, yes, it would, because you would have the habit of stillness, which helps your aim.

Unlike Alan Iverson, I can recommend practice.

Maybe it’ll help with some of the hormone stuff, too?
