I Do Not Think Cassandra Means

by Little Miss Attila on May 3, 2009

. . . what Stacy thinks Cassandra means. Not by a long shot. And if he think she’s a radical Feminist, or an embittered spinster . . . this could become very interesting, very quickly.

Ace’s site is, of course, the Heffalump in the room, as he runs the original “Boyz Playhouse, Some Girlz Allowed” of the blogosphere. Though Ace of Spades doesn’t claim to be either a social conservative (to any significant degree), or a Christian (at all), and that is a huge distinguishing feature between his site and Stacy’s: the two bloggers occupy different positions in the cultural wars.

Furthermore, Ace has at various times over the past five years acknowledged the tension between what he does on his site (providing a playground for ribaldry and surrealism) and his political philosophy (which is in many ways a Classically Liberal point of view, a la, say, Jeff Goldstein‘s). While I haven’t agreed with the approach he takes at any given moment—and, in fact, I try to avoid his comments threads, sometimes skimming through them, or leaving my take on the issue of the days without ever going back—I think he perceives the balancing act that is incurred when one runs a high-profile conservative site with a lot of testosterone-fueled locker talk, and he’s certainly told his “morons,” on several occasions, when to tone down remarks that might make the female readers particularly uncomfortable (and his black readers, his gay readers, and so forth, for that matter; anti-Semitism, he handles personally and definitively—like a fuckin’ hammer . . .).

I’m not sure Stacy has confronted this issue.

How does one celebrate human sexuality and sexual differences in a way that’s still fundamentally respectful? When Stacy focuses on Carrie Prajean’s breasts, speculating endlessly about whether or not she has had enhancement surgery, he is most certainly bagging himself some unique visitors. But here is the thing—and I will speak as “the feminist in the crowd” (not what the gang is calling a “second wave” feminist, but more, as Darleen would put it, as an equity-femme—someone who doesn’t want to hear unlimited putdowns based on my group identity, any more than the average black person wants to hear an endless barrage of black jokes, or a Jewish person, nonstop “Heeb humor”; sometimes enough really is enough).

I personally don’t give a shit about Carrie Prajean: she was in a freakin’ beauty contest, where a degree of superficiality is a given. Some on my side of the b-sphere (not my side on the issue—I’m with the others on this one) is treating her like she’s Joan of freakin’ Arc. Meanwhile, a few of my pals in the LGBT community are behaving as if Perez Hilton’s behavior is somehow remotely appropriate—no matter how hostile, sexist, and contrary it was to the rules of the silly undertaking he agreed to take on (judging a beauty contest that was not supposed to include political questions).

But Stacy, who presents himself as an opponent of same-sex marriage, and purports to have respect for women (and, of course, he does conduct himself quite well in his personal life; it is his writing that we are discussing, here), is reducing a popular spokesperson for traditional marriage, a woman who has handled a media firestorm (including a few outright smears) on this issue with grace, to a pair of mammary glands that may or may not have had work done on them, echoing the misogyny of the left. He’s then going one further by writing casually about women who are “sluts,” and “whores.”

I like Stacy, but he hasn’t really answered Cassandra’s concerns. Nor do I think he has a coherent underlying philosophy.

And I’m not sure, frankly, that I’d want to fuck around with most Marine wives. But then, that’s me.

Okay, enough about that. Hey!—How come there aren’t enough female political bloggers? Is there kind of gender bias or something out there? Just wonderin’ . . . . and why is everybody looking at me like that?

I am simply amazed that a flaming fraud of an attention whore (Cretin Hilton) would have the audacity to question ANYONES moral position on any issue.

L’audace, l’audace, tujours l’audace!!!!!

Feminism is to women, as Liberals are to political philosophies, as Physicians in the Public Interest are to science. Sheep’s clothing for the Left to lure unsuspecting
creatures to their eternal doom–nobody else need apply. The former has little to do with the latter.

Heh 🙂 Teh Patriarchy… they are always after our Lucky Charms.

Seriously, enjoyed the post and I think you’re spot on. I try not to waste too much time worrying about what people think of me. I can’t control that. Not sure where anyone got the idea that I’m a feminist, but again just because someone says a thing, doesn’t make it so 🙂

Toddling off to tell some other man how to run his life…. not!

Female political bloggers? What if the number reflects the interest level? Must we subsidize the XX half of the blogosphere in the pursuit of some nebulous ‘fairness’ target?

An excellent post. It’s a tricky thing to engage and yet you and Cassandra both have handled it well.

On your side of the Atlantic, your government put one of your most highly respected playwrites — Oscar Wilde — in jail for two years, at hard labor, just for having sex with men. Your filmmakers made a movie about that event; “The Trials of Oscar Wilde,” was made in 1960, and even in the dialogue of that movie, characters spoke of homosexuality as if it is “loathesome and degenerate,” … “terrible corruption,” … etc.
