Oh, Just Pass Something.

Call it “healthcare.” Call it anything. Call it the “Fuzzy Bunnies and Furry Kittens Act.” But pass something.

Didn’t you hear the President? The time for talking is over.

Ratify in haste, repent at leisure.

They’ve been passing a lot of gas, but I suspect they mean to pass something more substantial. I would hope they would get constipated or even impacted.

Something similar is sometimes seen in business…it’s been referred to as “deal heat.” Some dude or dudette, say the VP of BusDev, starts pushing a particular deal, let’s say an acquisition, and stakes a lot of credibility on it. Now it turns out the deal isn’t as attractive as it looks–the purchase price has gone way up, and we’ve found out some unpleasant things about the target company.

4 times our out of 5, the VP in question will still be pushing to do the deal, and coming up with lots of creative reasons why the high price is actually justified and the fact that the target’s factories use 1950s-era Soviet machine tools is actually a benefit….

You know, if they took their time (and, heck, they have had six months), they could craft legislation that made sense and actually addressed the real concerns to actually lower costs and increase services. Legislation that would be acceptable to most, including conservatives, and they could include their government option , and they would get away with it. Deal with tort reform to lower malpractice costs, etc, and so on.

But, of course, lowering costs is not what it is about. Control is.
