    I recall seeing Evelyn Waugh in a list for a class in Women in Lit.
    I’ve no idea how the prof dealt with it.

    What’s scary is that there are still some allegedly-enlightened corners of the world - and publishing certainly thinks itself to be enlightened - where the sort of rampant sexism faced by Chartrand still exists.

    I admit here that I got a smidgen more respect under a female pseudonym a quarter-century ago, but I wasn’t trying to earn a living.
