Those “Green Links.”

by Little Miss Attila on January 5, 2010

I tried them, but I was horrified at the result and pulled the plug immediately. I’ve considered reinstating them as we all become inured to ’em, and learn not to click thereon. But I think the ultimate result would simply be similar to that of those Google Adsense ads—they just don’t bring anything in. I’ve thought of simply killing the latter, but of course there’s the old “print publishing” mindset: one wants a few ads on the sidebar simply to make the place look active and desirable to the next advertiser. Cut-rate ads down the sidebar generate full-freight ads for the top.

The Amazon Widgets/Associates ads are better, because although they only bring in a pittance, is is steady money, and they change periodically. Plus, I get to custom-pick the books for some of ’em. Remember: never use your bookmarks to get to Amazon—go there via your favorite blogger.*

Oh, hey. Speaking of which, this week (and probably next) is (are) the First Quarter LMA Pledge Drive. I’d like to remind everyone that non-subscribers do not receive those topless photos [straight men/lesbians] and terrific weeknight supper recipes [straight women/gay men].

Also, I will not immediately go take a vacation in Provincetown after I have your dough in hand.

* Your favorite blogger = me

Instead of immediately going to Provincetown on vacation. Save a little driving and come to Wellfleet. This time of the year there are no traffic worries. No issues with beach parking. No sun burn worries. Hotel/motel rates are cheap. (well cheaper I assuming any ways) Plus we are home of the worlds best oysters. But remember to slow down a little going through Eastam and don’t forget to stop at the self serve turnip stand. 🙂 The biggest bonus in all this is you won’t be braking your promise to your readers.

Pulling the plug on the green links was a good call. I’ll swing through here on my next trip to Amazon.
