On Food as a Right

Mickey Kaus:

I went to my local Mexican diner and offered to give them a bundled payment to cure my hunger, but they insisted I pay for every dish I ordered under the archaic “fee for taco” model.

Bullshit: if he doesn’t have hunger insurance, he isn’t eating. Period.

When will people understand that there’s some things the private industry just can’t handle, like taco carts. If the Federal government were in charge of taco carts, not only would the tacos be healthier, the employees would finally make $60,000 a year with full benefits, plus the price would only be raised to $5 an ingredient. I don’t see how anyone loses.

And if you do, please contact your local Taco Bureau at City Hall, open from 1-3 PM three times a week for your convenience. Also for you convenience, the three days a week vary under our new “Walk to our offices more! (TM)” program.

Dumpster dive or do the dishes. Your choice.

I’ve got hunger insurance. A full refrigerator and freezer. Plus, if things go bad, a closet full of canned goods, including lots of tuna, canned corned beef and Spam. Luckily, having been in the Service ‘way back when, I know lots of ways to cook Spam that are halfway good.

If things get bad there are deer, rabbit, ducks and such. I reckon I could trade some handloaded ammo to some of my neighbors for a few laying hens. At last resort I could cook up some of the local Democrats.
