Did any of you read the entire Weekly Standard profile of Mitch Daniels? Which part of “his wife hates politics and doesn’t want to play the role of First Lady and actually left him for several years” don’t you understand? What part of “his kids don’t want to live in the hostile media spotlight reserved for children of GOP candidates” are you unclear on?
He can say what he likes on the issues; the man is not running for President—not in 2012, not at any other time. Even if he throws his hat into the ring in the primaries, it will likely be to sell books and get his ideas more widely disseminated. He makes a comfortable living, and he will (as Sarah may) play the role of advisor and kingmaker rather than choosing the hot seat.
Everyone’s reasoning is sound, but you’re all working from the wrong premises.
