This is the kind of thing that the folks at Feministe get right: child rapists should not be getting off scot-free. Why is that so difficult?

I used to run by the banks of the Charles, and there was a great early 80s spray painted sign on a bridge that said “Castrate Rapists”. Shades of Sharia law, perhaps? Ooops, no, they punish the victim….not the perp
The rules for what you’re required to support if you’re a feminist are getting harder and harder to understand. I was reading yesterday a thread in which feminists were doing their darnedest to get behind the prevailing sentiment that a visiting wild-eyed Iraqi was a terrific fellow who deserved nothing but sympathy and support from his progressive audience. A few feminists timidly suggested that they couldn’t quite agree with his views on women. He snapped back that no one cared what they thought about anything as stupid as women’s rights. They were initially disconcerted, but after a few exchanges, with support from the commenting community, they came up with a comfortable position: they hated the American military intervention in his country as much as he did, because war kills women, and is therefore bad.
So feminism means not liking things that are bad for women. But they needn’t be specially bad for women, just bad for people in general, including women. So feminists should be against disease and bad weather. After a while you just relax and disapprove of whomever the people in charge of your thoughts tell you to disapprove of.
“Impenetrability! That what I say.”
