The EPA as “Rogue Agency” in Decline

by Little Miss Attila on April 10, 2011

The Examiner gives us the big picture on the EPA:

Lost in the kabuki-dance drama of last week’s budget showdown were immensely important votes in the Senate and House on the Environmental Protection Agency’s efforts to govern through regulation. In the House, 19 Democrats joined the Republican majority in a decisive 255-172 vote to defund the EPA’s attempt to circumvent Congress and begin its own cap-and-trade program.

The measure was introduced by House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton of Michigan. A companion measure introduced in the Senate by Sen. Jim Inhofe, the Oklahoma Republican who is the ranking minority member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, fell just short of the votes needed for passage, despite support from three Democrats.

Supporters of the EPA effort should think twice before cheering the outcome of the Senate vote because, while the regulatory initiative is safe for now, the prospects for its long-term survival are dim, prompting Politico to headline a recent story, “EPA holds on for dear life.” The reason the outlook is so grim for the EPA on this issue is the fact that a growing number of congressional Democrats have had enough of being threatened by executive branch political appointees.

The threats started in 2009 when EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson warned that her agency would move with a regulatory version of cap and trade if Congress failed to approve President Obama’s legislative version of the program. Predictably, the House, led then by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, approved the Obama bill by a wide margin. But things stalled in the Senate prior to the 2010 midterm congressional election. When Democratic Senate candidate Joe Manchin of West Virginia won election after running a well-publicized TV spot featuring him putting a bullet from a high-powered rifle through a target labeled “cap and trade,” Jackson moved to make good on her threat.

Shortly after the House vote last week, Rep. Dennis Cardoza, D-Calif. — who opposed the Upton measure — told Politico that a growing number of his Democratic colleagues were beginning to view the EPA as a “rogue agency.” He added, “I think the president’s out of step on this one, and he’s going to have to get his agency under control.”

Despite the setback last week, Inhofe was upbeat because on the four separate votes that were held on his proposal and three alternatives, a total of 64 senators voted to restrain EPA to one degree or another. Inhofe promised to bring the issue back to the Senate in the near future . . .

I can’t wait.

While watching Crying John wallow in his 1995 PTSD, it’s important to remember there are still Republican lawmakers with the courage to fight for us.

Nice to see the oil and coal industries are getting their money’s worth for their bribes.

Unlike the Left, that not only screws us over but uses taxpayer dollars to do it.
Energy is the lifeblood of modern civilization. The Vampires of the Left just want to drain us of our blood.

We saw in the recent budget debate that the voice of “The Left” (The Left defined as the 81% of Americans who wanted to raise taxes on the rich to help lower the deficit) was not heard at at it the so-called Left-wing press debate…

Once again the voice of “The Left” (The Left defined as the 83% of Americans who favor a stronger, not weaker EPA) is being ignored completely by the so-called Left-wing press during the EPA debate.

Isn’t it curious how reptilian oil and coal industry paid spokes models like Jim Imhofe and Newt Gingrich get their propaganda printed verbatim in the so-called Left-wing press and the opinions of 80+% of Americans aren’t heard at all during the debate.

It’s almost like the only opinions that get heard in the so-called Left-wing press are the ones that support the interests of the wealthy individuals and large corporations that own the so-called Left-wing press.

The Left ain’t 81% of anything in America, ponce-a-liar.
That number, if anything other than a flawed sample, represents the people kept ignorant by the Left-leaning media.
Otherwise they would know that even if we set the tax rate on all income over $250,000 at 90%, it still wouldn’t solve the deficit problem, much less that unfunded liability problem of $120 Trillion in the long term. People don’t even know that the US has the most progressive tax sytem of all the OECD countries, and has for decades–the top tiers of taxpayers carry most of the freight. The Leftist M<SM: Keeping America ignorant and
unhappy. "Yay, we'll screw that rich motherfucker!" So much for ignorance being bliss. The Left"s Green lobby corrupts more than all industry combined. And they are on the Democrats speed dial. And having lunch with the President. Pelosi and Reid and meeting with them right now at Soros's CommieCon. Bet you can hit quite a few Democrat c-suckers with a stick over there. Or swing a Democrat fatcat. Democrats love democracy except when they lose. They can't get their bullshit carbon taxes and sequestration through Congress so they try to pull an end around by having the EPA do the dirty work. FUCK YOU. Taxpayers are mad as Hell and aren't going to take it anymore. Thousands would die if they had to depend
upon wind and solar for heating in the Northern US during Winter. Not to mention the $50,000-$100,000+ cost of the systems needed.
We are not going to let sociology majors make our technical decisions. You can answer poll questions intelligently unless you have the facts and the
lying fucking Left makes sure that people don't.

The polls are wrong and even if they’re right it’s only because Americans are dumb, Pureel?

That’s about all I could glean from your angry, angry rage-filled post. It reminds me of someone suffering from both nausea and diarrhea venting from both ends at the same time.

No doubt you would force all Americans to watch Fox News 24/7 Clockwork Orange style if you could.

Here’s a clip to get you started:

Your extremist, lying, rabid, partisan, anti-intellectual
rants are getting stale. Didn’t your polls show Walker taking it on the chin in
Wisconsin with that Wisconsin Supreme Court race? Heck, some of you idiots were
claiming that those polls showed 90+% support for the Dems/against Walker.
You have to stop visiting Kos, the DU, and HuffPo for your “facts.”
I notice that you can’t refute the basic fact that people can not give a meaniful
answer to a poll question if they haven’t been given what they need to make a proper evaluation.

But go ahead and tax away all income above $250,000 a year. All of it. We’ll put it up for you IMMEDIATELY and call
it The Obama Redistribution. Those football players crying that $20 million/year is slavery will be in for a shock. So will
those Hollywood megastars. Pass The Obama Redistribution NOW!!!!!! For the children!!!

Let me know if you want to make it retroactive. See you in November 2012.

Purrel,

Normal human beings, when confronted with data that shows a vast majority of their fellow humans beings disagree with their beliefs might engage in a nanosecond or two of quiet reflection.

Not you wingnuts.

You just double down on the crazy.

That’s why you never, ever disappoint.

You’ve just proved that Democrats aren’t normal human beings.
Didn’t a vast majority, 72%+, dispprove of ObamaCare?
And what did you out-of-touch weirdos do?
Shoved it down America’s throat.
Crazy is drum circles and weirdos with whistles.
Crazy is the Democrat Party.
Everybody sees it but crazy Democrats.

Purrel,

The latest numbers on Obamacare are 51% against-41% for.

Looks like the insurance company shills are losing the battle.

Darrell April 11, 2011 at 12:32 pm

So when someone brings old old numbers (2009) , you think it’s OK to bring up a new
poll to prove them wrong? IDIOT. Thank God you stayed away from science.
Too bad your ideological idiots are now in charge of us all.

ponce April 11, 2011 at 12:59 pm

I think that when we’re discussing public opinion, it’s important to use the most recent number, yes.

Otherwise we could be discussing something bizarre, like how a majority of Southerners support slavery.

So while it’s fair to say a modest majority of Americans oppose Obama care, it is also fair to say that a huge majority of Americans support both higher taxes on the rich and allowing the EPA to regulate harmful emissions.

Darrell April 11, 2011 at 2:09 pm

Your first problem is that you think polls mean something and that the social sciences have any
credibility left. The first time the polling organization were caught “cooking the numbers,” [and they all have] putting ideology ahead of science, they lost all credibility for all time. They are attempting to lead public opinion rather than report it.

The second problem the Left has–embodied by the Obama administration–is the lack of real world expertise. That reminds me
of the story of King Frederik I of Sweden. You see he was given a lion as a diplomatic gift. Eventually the lion died and the king had the carcass skinned and preserved and eventually given to a taxidermist to mount. One problem–the taxidermist had never seen a lion and the results were cartoonish. That is the Democratic Party in a nutshell. They have never owned businesses, many have never held real jobs in the private sector. Zealots without a science background are put in charge of programs involving science.
And the results are always cartoonish. Reason enough never to let you guys near the levers of power again.

Haha, Purile,

I think you’ve officially hit bottom with the tired wingnut shtick of “Polls only matter when I site them.”

I hear Obama is going to recommend raising taxes on the rich to help balance the budget…a move the 81% of Americans you consider “The Left” are sure to approve.

Darrell April 11, 2011 at 3:34 pm

I don’t trust any polls. I just showed how much of a partisan hack you are by always citing the ones that fit your scam.
I could have brought up Obama’s recent Rasmussen numbers, but those are just farts as well.
They all are until we hear that the polling organizations shitcanned the zealots and cleaned house–and set up a foolproof system to make sure
it can’t happen again.
But, Heck, I always give pollsters phony answers and from what I’ve heard from people I know, they do too.
Fucking with the Left is always the good thing to do.
Tax and spend. Tax the rich. Why wait for eggs dribbled out one or two per day? Let’s slaughter that chicken and get it all at once!
Ideas on the Left. All as stupid as you are.
The same since Marx first put them to paper.
The same bad ideas until the end of time.
