All You Need to Know

. . . about the dark side of the 1970s–or the “friends with benefits” sensibility, for that matter:

I wondered for years why he thought she might think he might be talking about melanin . . . it seemed, you know, rather off-topic.

“. . . talking about melanin . . .” huh?

I kinda like the song, but you lost me entirely with that last comment.

In those days it was still dicey if you moved in for the melanin. It was more of a catch and release sort of thing.

The first time I heard “millennium.”
Pretentiousness to get into her pants made sense.
Sure, it was not a classic like “pompitous of love.”
But it beats “movin’ in.”

Now if we could do something about those Springsteen fans who still cling to “wrapped up like a douche*”. . .

*Actually “Revved up like a deuce.”

“wrapped up like a douche” is solely attributable to Manfred Mann. Any real Springsteen fan (or anyone who has at least listened to the song) knows what he was singing. Which, btw, is “cut loose like a deuce”.

Darrell: Manfred Mann’s cover of “Blinded By the Light” (a far bigger hit than the original) unleashed that risible mondegreen on the rock world.

Yeah, but MM fans don’t call radio talk shows saying “It’s “wrapped up like a douche, man. You know, like how a douche is wrapped?”

A douche is wrapped very tight so it can fit into the trunk of the little deuce coup.
