Lady—the entire plot hinges on the police. No police, no movie. Woman up.
“But I want my dialogue to be on the nose: the notion that someone might use ethnic slurs without really being racist is simply inconceivable.”
Yeah, well: I’m a California girl myself, and I don’t use ethnic slurs. But I know that people in the Northeast and the upper Midwestern cities use ’em without meaning a lot more by saying “Polack” than I might by saying “that guy with the gray hair,” or “that blonde in the corner.”
I mean, that’s genuinely how these fuckin’ flyover people talk, you know? They don’t mean anything by it.
The “Geezer” review is an interesting clip, though: it shows the attitudes behind “big Hollywood’s” snubbing of Gran Torino. The geezer-chick does, however, add insult to injury: Eastwood is spectacular as an actor in this movie, but the Hmong actors kick ass. And the writing just sparkles: good dialogue, good storytelling, good foreshadowing, good imagery: the mark of Cain that becomes a stigmata toward the end of the movie.
I honestly feel that a lot of the negative critics truly don’t understand this movie at all.
