Pawlenty Is Definitely Throwing His Hat in the Ring for 2012.

No, I didn’t see his speech early this morning (the operative phrase being “morning”), but I saw his speech last night at the private party (which I had to laboriously talk my way into, with skillful shmoozing).

I did try to videotape it, but the lighting was awkward and I’ll have to check on whether it came out. (Is “videotape” still a valid verb in a world without tape?)

And he didn’t say anything out loud about 2012, of course.

It was essentially a reminder that he does consider himself to be part of the group that will help us to help ourselves out of the wilderness. And I say “group” advisedly: too many people are waiting for Zombie Reagan to arise from the dead and lead a new revolution. That’s unlikely to happen this time; also, you don’t fight a cult of personality with another cult of personality.

That’s lame. I mean retarded. I mean gay. I mean, it’s not the smartest thing we can do.

And the immediate challenge has to do with strengthening our forces in the House and Senate, rather than trying to guess who the best leaders will be to overtake the executive branch in 2012.

Obama ran on being the anti-Bush. It’s looking like being the anti-Obama will be sufficient to get anyone elected in 2012.
