Sorry, Charlie.

I don’t have any codeine that is not combined with Tylenol.

Fortunately, I come from hearty stock, and my liver is positively . . . Tomboyish.

Wait . . . how about Vicodin and vodka? With, like, plenty of fluids? And a multivitamin?

“Two and a Half Men” had a scene on Monday where Charlie is caring for his new fiancee — whose name I will bother to learn if she sticks around, although I’m really rooting for Rose, played by Melanie Lynskey, who had her first screen kiss with Kate Winslet in “Heavenly Creatures” — while she has a cold and diarrhea AND her period and sends him to the drugstore with a list. His pharmacist, played by Martin Mull, offers him cough syrup with codeine, which he accepts at the end of the scene and then takes later with whiskey when he is grossed out by his fiancee’s illness and then has to go feed her cat and clean his litterbox. Don’t worry, his brother Alan drives Charlie to his fiancee’s apartment and does the work, since Charlie is not sober and also pays him twenty bucks.

Caregivers watch a LOT of television. Want to know the plot of “The Big Bang Theory” for Monday night, too? “How I Met Your Mother”? “Medium”? Anyone?

I don’t generally watch something unless it’s foisted upon me. Fortunately, tonight is “Monster Quest” night on the History Channel, and the spouse has the sound on. Alligators and sharks! I’m so HAPPY!

When I was living in Alberta, Canada as a teenager it was 222’s and Lamb’s Navy Rum. 222’s are generic codeine. They stop pain….good for me. I was doing maintenance on my Honda 90 Scrambler and caught the tip of my thumb in the chain as I oiled it. It took off all the skin at the tip except at the nail. Blood everywhere. PAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lots of PAIN!!!!!!!!!
A couple of 222s and a shot of Lamb’s and all was well with the world.
222s were over the counter back then.
The morphine when I broke my back a few years ago wasn’t bad either;-)

I’m always doing stuff like that–there are scars on both thumbs where I’ve split them open at the tip, and I messed up the middle finger on my right hand by breaking it while I was playing basketball with the guys. Had I known it was broken, I would have gotten it set.

Ah, well: you should see what my father has done to his hands. And my grandfather, whose hobby was carpentry/home improvement, managed to mess up at least one of his fingers pretty badly.

The codeine, though, is for cramps.

However, I am under fire for combining my liver-unfriendly chemicals. Maybe I’ll give up alcohol, or something . . .
