The ACU writes:
Dear Joy:
At ACU we have just received word that the liberal Democrat Majority under Nancy Pelosi has just temporarily postponed debate on the liberal’s extreme environmentalist Cap & Trade bill. They had announced that they would debate and vote on the bill as early as today.
This is very exciting news.
Word from Capitol Hill is that your pressure is working! We need to keep it up!
Act Now! Call Rep. David Dreier at (202) 225-2305 and urge a no vote on “Cap & Trade”!
We don’t need Cap and Trade which will result in a National Energy Tax that would cost each American family up to, if not over, $3,100 per year.
Seriously: even if I thought a well-designed cap and trade bill were the way to go—and I am very skeptical about that—I would be against something that further impoverishes working families in the middle of a recession.
We have existing agencies that have done a great deal to clean up various forms of pollution, as evidenced by the face that the air in the San Gabriel and San Fernando Valleys is now breathable, and the L.A. skyline is visible, even in the summer. If we decide that carbon qualifies as a pollutant, it can be handled in a way that doesn’t cripple the economy.
Cap and Trade is not a carbon tax, though: it’s an energy tax. It takes money away from the folks who need to be developing solutions for tomorrow’s energy needs; it’s destructive.
UPDATE: Erick hears that the “delayed!” rumor may be a ruse; let’s keep the phone calls pouring in.
