I guess that’s just as well.

Poor woman. I don’t remember seeing her in any movies, but my kids say I am a fuddy duddy. RE: the combination of meds. The bulk of them sound like a mix treating bipolar disorder. Not to diagnose by prescriptions, but many bipolar people are treated with five or six meds at once these days. And sometimes a person has multiple leftover drugs lying around because they have been prescribed one, it doesn’t help, another is added. But they are so expensive few people would throw them out. And that isn’t even beginning to speculate about self-medication or people with chronic pain (psychic, or physical) or drug-seeking who see multiple doctors..Propranol (sp) is often used to control tremor that accompanies taking lithium (perhaps other meds also have this effect?) Topamax is helpful to some people with migraines and is also used to prevent weight gain on bipolar meds like the anti seizure drugs or lithium.

Yeah. It always looks like more than it really is. That said, there are medications in my cabinet that I take Pretty Darn Seriously:

1) codeine or vicodin in doses more than I need for pain (frankly, I’m conservative about ’em precisely because neither one of ’em gives me a buzz, so anything more would be a waste–but if I ever did get a head rush, I’d be pretty careful);

2) Ritalin (icky stuff in large doses–you think coffee shakes are bad?);

3) antispasmotics and migraine pills (see #1);

4) sleeping pills (these are serious shit, and the less, the better);

5) Tylenol vs. aspirin patterns (my father says “take the Tylenol; screw your liver,” but he’s also the one who hypothesized, when I was a teenager, that my allergy to down sleeping bags was a psychosomatic condition related to deep-seated feelings of guilt);

6) alcohol; and

7) mixing shit in my bloodstream. We don’t like that. We like the being alive thing.

Okay. That is a long list. But I take Prozac without thinking too much about it: after all, it’s the Vitamin C of antidepressants: anything extra is simply excreted. And antihistamines are pretty harmless, too.

And hydrocortisone handcreams.

Also, a little bit of smack every now and then–it turns out that’s rather slimming.

Whhaaaatt???
