A Cure for the Recession.

Just keep an open mind now, okay?

A recent study commissioned by the API and executed by ICF International spells out some of the economic impact increased domestic energy production would have on the U.S. Economy. Here are a few tidbits:

— Development of resources in moratoria areas and other places currently off limits could lift U.S. crude oil production by as much as 2 million barrels per day in 2030, offsetting nearly a fifth of the nation’s imports;

— Natural gas production could increase by 5.34 billion cubic feet per day, or the equivalent of 61 percent of the expected natural gas imports in 2030;

— Development of these resources could generate more than $1.7 trillion in government revenue in the form of royalties, bonus bids and taxes.

Not to mention the fact that this would create jobs. Remember what they used to say about the Great Depression?—”it wasn’t so bad, if you had a job.” (That’s some economics humor to brighten your day.)

I know, I know: you’re tired of red meat. Tired of “drill, Baby, drill.” Let’s go a bit softer, shall we? “A little drilling never hurt anyone.” Or: “An oil well a day keeps Depression at bay.” How about: “Mother Earth is in the mood; who are we to deny her?”

Come on, boys and girls. Tonight’s the night.
