Final thought — Accelerated Churchillian Development — Every liberal at 20 is a possible conservative at 25. Engage fearlessly ! —Michael Pleahy
He tweeted that, and I thought it was rather good.
Five year, though? That would require a person to move at quite a pace, which practically requires a “road to Damascus” moment. Like, well . . . when David Horowitz realized that the bookkeeper for the Black Panthers had been murdered, and none of his lefty friends thought the matter should really be investigated too closely.
I should say one should start to question it all by 35—45 latest.
Of course, I have a friend who was an Army LRRP in Vietnam, and despite his passion for the Second Amendment, managed to vote for President Clinton twice. Twice.
He’s a staunch union man, and he was never going to vote for anyone without a “D” after their name. I believe he was still in his 50s—just barely—when the Democrats tried to foist John Kerry upon him.
That did it.

For the record, I am who he was talking about. A budding almost-liberal at 19 (due to influences from friends in college), who took a firm right turn during the 2004 elections, which was also around the time I started blogging. I was, let’s see…21 at the time. Thanks to a couple of new common-sense conservative-type friends of mine, and my conservative grandfather, who I always thought was one of the smartest people alive.
